GIVE A LITTLE CHANGE A LOT is the motto of B'nai Tzedek Tucson, a philanthropy program for Jewish teens in grades 8-12. B'nai Tzedek teens take the Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam, Repair of the World, seriously by not only learning about non profit organizations worldwide whose missions are to help make our world a better place but also supporting the work of these non profits both financially and with hands-on social action.
B'nai Tzedek teens contribute their own funds (scholarship assistance available to all) which are generously matched by funds at the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona. Once each year B'nai Tzedek teens give a personal grant to a non profit agency of their choice, anywhere in the world. Hands on social action projects with local non profits combined with service learning help the teens to clarify their values and find the non profit that speaks to them.
A leadership council of B'nai Tzedek Tucson, the Teen Advisory Council (TAC) is open to B'nai Tzedek teens in grades 10-12 by application. TAC teens not only give individual grants but also raise funds for a group grant they put out to the local community. TAC teens choose an interest area, create a Request for Proposals (RFP), review the RFPs and interview the agencies to see which best meets their funding criteria. The group grant is presented by the TAC teens at the Jewish Federation Annual Meeting.
B'nai Tzedek Tucson gives teens exposure to non profit agencies, provides leadership and organizational skills and teaches critical thinking in a meaningful and exciting program that truly changes he world. The program is sponsored by the Coalition of Jewish Education of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona in partnership with the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona and local donors.
